More Caffeine? Espresso or Drip Coffee?

I like drip coffee, but I’m an espresso drinker too. For those of you out there with similar affinities for drinks of the caffeinated variety, have you ever wondered about the type of coffee from which you get the most caffeine?

For some unknown reason, I always thought that espresso contained more caffeine than drip coffee, but I never knew for sure. Imagine my surprise when I discovered the opposite! An article on Wikipedia (for better or for worse…) states, “Espresso has more caffeine per unit volume than most beverages, but the usual serving size is smaller—a typical 60 mL (2 US fluid ounces) of espresso has 80 to 150 mg of caffeine, a little less than the 95 to 200 mg of a standard 240 mL (8 US fluid ounces) cup of drip-brewed coffee.” So, an espresso shot still packs quite a punch for it’s small size, even if it’s caffeine content isn’t quite as large as it’s drippy cousin.

I’m not sure how this will affect my decisions when it comes to my morning and afternoon cups of “pick-me-up”, but I’m grateful for such a delicious way to get through the day!

The next time you’re in our Café, try switching it up a bit…if you’re a drip coffee drinker, try one of our espresso drinks! And if you’re an espresso aficionado, try a drink with a little more punch…IF YOU DARE! ;)

See you in the Café soon,

Heidi
